      Butzbach is a small city and therefore exploring the city by foot is the best way. Of course there are many bus stations but the main attractions of the city are placed in the center, which are all located in walking distance. In case you wish to get to know the little districts of Butzbach, which are directly connected to Butzbach, it is advisable to take the bus (www.rmv.de) or use your car. You can buy tickets directly in the bus or at machines at the bus stop. RMV also offers attractive different weekly tickets which vary depending on the zone you wish to travel.

      The beautiful marketplace with its fountain in the centre is the first thing the visitor should look at when arriving in Butzbach. The place is surrounded by 16th century old frame houses („Fachwerkhäuser“) which make this place unique. Those houses are built similar with wood but each house looks differently in its ways of paintings and proportions. In fact some might find an angular house right between other frame houses. In the center of Butzbach at the market place one can finde many shops, restaurants and cafes which make the visit at the marketplace unforgettable. Just sitting on a bench next to the fountain with good ice cream and gazing at the beautiful scene is really enjoyable.
      *The farmer`s market takes place twice a week. Tuesdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. You can stroll around the marketplace and buy really delicious products from farmers from Butzbach and its surrounding towns. Fresh products like fish, meat, cheese, vegetables and fruits can be bought there at high and fresh quality. Especially the self made fish sandwich is a must on the market.
      *The Christmas market- In case you visit Butzbach around Christmas time, going to the Christmas market in Butzbach is a must. In fact the marketplace with its frame houses and fountain is beautifully decorated and of course the market offers delicious food and drinks. For example having a hot spiced wine („Glühwein or hot applewine“) and a Christmas gingerbread („Lebkuchen“) provide you a pleasant feeling.
      *The 90-minutes long city walk in Butzbach is for free and a really good opportunity to get to know the history of the city and also insider information. There are also city walks in the evening to discover Butzbach by night with a special atmosphere, like the marketplace, for example.
      *The „landgraves’ castle“ („Landgrafenschloss“) close to the market place is definitely a visit worth. It was built in 1390 and the municipality of Butzbach has its district there. Today it is a lovely place to rest and to take a walk. The so called „pleasure garden“ with fountains, trick fountains, roses and exotic plants is located at the park of the landgraves’ castle. Because of some play areas for children, this place is also suitable for children. By chance, you will visit Butzbach around August/September, the open air cinema (http://www.kino-butzbach.de/oa.htm) which is centered directly in the yard of landgrave’s castle is really romantic. Each year it offers a large range of movies which are presented during two weeks. Every day they play a different movie and with good food, popcorn and a lot of drinks the visitor can have a nice evening in a beautiful setting at the castle. Knowledge of German language will be helpful. Don’t forget to look into the sky because there can be many shooting stars!
      *The cinema (http://www.kino-butzbach.de) in Butzbach is small, however it is a real cozy experience where popcorn and a coke should not be missing.
      *Butzbach also has a museum (Färbgasse 16 35510 Butzbach phone: (06033) 995-250) which is in the city centre and where you can also find the tourist office. The museum gives an insight into the history of Butzbach’s industry and shows the history of Butzbach. There are also some interesting and funny aspects presented, for example what the local townsmen wore on their shaven head around 1750. It might also be interesting for children on a rainy day. For adults the entry is 3 EUR, for children and youths 1 EUR and for students 2 EUR.
      *The swimming pool (Wetzlarer Straße 31, 35510 Butzbach, Deutschland phone:+49 6033 65680) in Butzbach has been recently renovated and offers children and adults a fun time together.       *The open air swimming pool is situated on top of the city where the view is magnificent. In 2006 it has been selected as the most beautiful open air swimming pool in Hessen. At this place you can find a food area and also a sauna.
      *When visiting this pool, it has to be mentioned that at this place there is also a tower from the Romans. The Romans ruled over Butzbach over 200 years so there are many remains which are very interesting. This tower has been reconstructed as a frame house out of wood. The view from there is real nice and it is useful to get an overview of the city.
      *The Limes can be retraced in the forest above the swimming pool. The Limes in Germany runs through Butzbach and is an interesting remain of the Romans. It is advisable to go for a walk into the forest to discover Roman’s history. There is also a little discovery walk in the forest where the people can learn about the different kind of woods and plants. This might be a good chance to have a nice walk with children in the forest.
      *The Hausberg tower („Hausbergturm“) is not directly in Butzbach but in a district of Butzbach (Hoch Weisel). It is a 1 hour walk from Butzbach to this tower and it is definitely advisable to go onto it because the view is amazing. The tower is built on a hill which is 485m high and the tower itself has a height of 23,25 meters. Especially on New Year’s Eve it is such a great place to see the fireworks from above, or on May 1st every year there is a big barbecue on top of the hill and next to the tower. On the hill there is a little cabin where it is possible to rest and picnic.
      *Butzbach is also called the „Weidig“ town, named after Friedrich Ludwig Weidig who was born in 1791 in a town close to Butzbach. He was working as a teacher in Butzbach and was one of the main figures of the „Vormärz“ and a pioneer of the 1848 Revolution. The „Wedig“ school („Weidigschule“) can be visited which is close to the open air swimming pool.

      There are many good restaurants but here are only those listed which are really worth visiting and set you in a real nice atmosphere. The settings of these restaurants are very unique because most of them are in the centre of the city surrounded by beautiful frame houses.

      *Zum Rossbrunnen (http://www.zumrossbrunnen.de) is a family run Italian restaurant and is situated in the centre of the city. The Pizza there tastes great and if you like to eat ice cream after dinner there is a real good ice cafe around the corner. The cinema is right next to this restaurant which is a good activity to do after dinner. In the summer the restaurant has a real nice out door seating area and sometimes they have a barbecue.
      *La Piazza (Marktplatz 10, 35510 Butzbach, Deutschland phone:+49 6033 927959) is another very good Italian restaurant in the city where you can also sit outside and enjoy the view of the marketplace. The homemade pasta with salmon is a favorite dish.
      *Panda(Weiseler Straße 8, 35510 Butzbach, Deutschland phone:+49 6033 744527) is an Asian bistro/restaurant and if you want to have a fast delicious lunch or dinner, this restaurant is perfect. The prices are low and the quality of the food is really good and fresh. This restaurant also has an outdoor seating area to eat ouside.
      *Havanna Bar (Marktplatz 23, 35510 Butzbach, Deutschland phone:+49 6033 923251) is a famous bar in Butzbach at the marketplace where the locals go. The interesting thing is that young people and also adults go to this place. They have a big variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails. While drinking a good cocktail, a burger with French fries should be tried there because it tastes really good. There it is also possible to drink and eat outside
      *Salvadors(Griedeler Straße 1, 35510 Butzbach, Deutschland phone:+49 6033 7449644) is a restaurant/bar situated next to Havanna Bar and is a little bit more fancy than the other bar. Rather adults go to this place for a wine and an appetizer. It is really nice to sit outside in the summer when the sun goes down.
      *Forsthaus(Forsthausstraße, 35510 Butzbach, Deutschland phone :+49 6033 5484) is a restaurant not in the centre of Butzbach. It is a 1 hour walk from Butzbach to Hausen, where the restaurant is located. There you can have the best escalope („Schnitzel“) in town. The restaurant is very special because it is in the middle of the forest. There is also a little private airfield for very small planes which is interesting to see.
      *The ice cafe in the main street in the city centre is really nice. The inside of the cafe is very small but this makes this cafe very cozy and unique. They do not only offer ice cream but also apple strudel with hot vanilla sauce. On hot days sitting outside of this cafe and gazing at different people and the scenic of Butzbach while enjoying ice cream is interesting and the ice cream tastes almost as good as in Italy

      *Römer Hotel (Jakob-Rumpf-Straße 2, 35510 Butzbach, Deutschland +49 6033 98080) is also in the heart of Butzbach and only a 1 minute walk to the marketplace.
      *Johanniter Hotel (Hoch-Weiseler Weg 1, 35510 Butzbach, Deutschland +49 6033 91709000) is not in the centre of Butzbach but by car it takes you five minutes to the city centre of Butzbach. The public transport from this hotel to Butzbach is also very good. The rooms are very nice and calm.
